  28.     I am planning to buy a CD-ROM in the next few weeks. Due to the limited
  29. budget, the only model I am able to afford is Panasonic, Philips, Sony and 
  30. Mitsumi (the low-end double-spin models).
  31.     
  32.     I want to know are all the CD inputs on all soundcards (including GUS)
  33. are the same or different? Cause I saw there are different audio cables for
  34. different brands of CD-ROMs and I want to make sure if it is compatible with
  35. my GUS.

  81.    I went to the local software shop today and saw Hired Guns on the
  82. shelf.  And, lo and behold, right on the box there was a sticker
  83. which read "Gravis 3D Holographic Sound"!  Kudos to Psygnosis for
  84. taking the Gravis plunge..
  85.  
  86.    I might get this game just to check out the sound...  Has anyone
  87. out there heard the sound from this game first hand?  If so, how
  88. convincing is the 3D effect?  The numerous 3D demos I've tried so far
  89. have only been moderately well done.  Although I suppose with a
  90. graphic screen to look at the effect might be more impressive.

  106. The GUS gets very bad press in the UK - most of the reviews have basically
  107. said "nice card, but it's not a SoundBlaster is it". The latest PC Review has
  108. a good example of an unfair review - they mentioned the problems with SB
  109. compatibility, and then said there were still problems even when using the GUS
  110. in native mode; they were referring to the original problem with DOOM 1.0, where
  111. the GUS sound didn't work properly. They said OK, this isn't the Ultrasound's
  112. fault, but it does highlight the card's incompatibility.

  118. Maybe you're right. As far as I can tell, the GUS is selling well in the UK
  119. (I was at a couple of shows last year and exhibitors were running out of them),
  120. but a lot of people don't seem to want it to happen. Maybe we should all write
  121. to these magazine publishers until they acknowledge we really exist - they seem
  122. to think not many people have them.

  155. The sound is behind because the MMPM streaming subsystem is behind.  It's
  156. just an artifact of a pre-emtive multitasking OS.

  158. As for the drivers, the latest version can be found at ftp-os2.cdrom.com in
  159. pub/os2/incoming as ultra01c.zip.  A stereo version will be released at the
  160. end of this month.

  200. I down loaded the gus0040.zip update to *fix* the problem with v2.16. 
  201. Guess wot ... v2.18 does not work properly either.

  205. The Honky.pat problem with megaem is not fixed either. Does gus0041.zip 
  206. fix all of this or will i have to wait ages longer for gravis to release
